It seems no matter what I do
I miss you more each day
Tears come at unexpected times
And I wander in a daze
The life we planned, together
I just can’t do it all alone
The house we built is still standing
But it’s somehow not a home.
They say the water cleanses
And they also claim the fire
But no matter how I focus
I can not quench the desire
To feel you walk beside me
And to want to laugh again
At all the silly moments
spent with my best friend
I know I have to carry on
And do my very best
The days and years keep ticking by
Like the heartbeat in my chest
But I wish that I could hold you
Or to feel you touch me soft
One half of me is missing
And now the other half is lost

On our first trip to Thailand, we met up with some old friends that invited us to stay with them. They had a house at an island resort that was devastated the year before by the tsunami that hit southern Thailand. We met several of the survivors that had returned for the one year anniversary. Their stories of loss were harrowing with some watching as the sea took their loved ones, inches from them, away forever. I felt their pain and wrote about how I would feel. One friend told me it is the saddest song they have ever heard.
