Back On You

Posted on March 8, 2022January 31, 2023

**************************************

You stay out drinkin’

until all hours

come home drunk

and trample Mamma’s flowers

Then you go and try

to put the blame on me

‘til she finally breaks you down

With the 3rd degree

It serves you right to suffer

when you act the way you do

All that mess that you be makin’

goin’ come back on you!

The bank come knockin’

on my front door

Had to fib tell ‘em

You don’t live here no more

Say’s you owe them somethin’

like a thousand bucks

So they sent around a man

to take your pick-up truck

It serves you right to suffer …

Neighbor man called

Says you better run

‘cause he be huntin’ you

with his big old gun

his wife done told him

what you did last week

and it ain’t like we’re talkin’

‘bout no kiss on the cheek

It serves you right to suffer …

I’m glad to say that

I ain’t in your shoes

A man like that

sure be livin’ the blues

Might of had some fun

In my younger day

Guess that’s why

I can stand here and say

It serves you right to suffer …

I have no idea where this came from! I needed words to fit the music and POP! There it was! I know I say things just roll out of me, and that is exactly how it was. I can’t even write fast enough to keep up with it sometimes. I don’t know if I’m channeling or what. Sometimes it will give me two verses and the first line of a third verse, and then nothing. It’s like it says, “Hey, I gave you a good start, now get to work and figure out the end.” But this song came to me complete.
