True Believer

Once upon a time, I was one of the true believers

Baptized in the blood of the woolly beast

Imprisoned in the catacombs of a blessed ignorance

Until I was finally released

Accused with the thought of a dangerous question

“Best not to think those things at all.”

I chalk it up to “divine intervention”,

That set me up to “take the fall”

Now with a clearer view of the situation

A detailed look at the machine

I really could not say

Just how I found my way

I guess the journey’s in-between 

Following a path of rigorous perception

fraught with hazards every step of the way

But here I firmly stand

My life in my own hands

So this is where I am today

In the life of an average human mortal

Comes a time when he’s got a choice to make

but if you are asking my opinion

It’s free to have and yours to take.

This song was my reaction to the indoctrination of religious fervor in the church which I believe has drifted far from the original intent and become simply a money factory where instead of saving the souls of its parishioners, it eats them. How did I get to this point? It all started when I asked a few questions and was told not to. Then I started really looking at the self-serving machinery that it is. This is not to say that I don’t have religious faith, just not in the church as an organization.
