Mockingbird

Our lives get so busy

you begin to lose your way

all becomes confusing

Then we say the things we say

ever onward motion

each and every single day

It becomes hard to remember

exactly why you stay

Taking time to be here now 

letting myself show me how

just me, the sky, 

the land and the wind

the distant call of the mockingbird

reminding me how it feels

to be me again

practicing my newfound words

I’m a Mockingbird

Some may stop and listen 

to the song it has to sing

But often goes unnoticed

or the pleasure that it brings

We’re busy with our own lives

and the drama that it brings

and so we hardly notice the

songs it shares and sings

When I sit at the piano something new almost always rolls out. This one did. Sometimes I feel like a mockingbird, learning new ways to express myself. The words felt like a revival after a long spell where words escaped me. It’s like that sometimes. The music is always there but I’m not always sure what stories need telling beyond the tune.
