I’m offered one of two types of cookies, one that is shaped like cube covered in toasted coconut and the other is round with chocolate. I take the cube and pop it in my mouth. “Mmmm!”
“I have other kinds, too.” The boy says. “I’m selling them for my sister. If she out sells the other girls in her troop she gets $50 for that week! So far she’s won $150!”
I ask, “How much is a box?”
“Ten dollars.”
Someone says, “They haven’t raised their prices in years, unlike Walmart.”
“I’ll take 15 boxes of Thin Mints and five boxes of the,” l pause trying to remember the name, “you know, the ones with the coconut and a drizzle of chocolate?”
He says, “Samoas! Yeah, those are good.”
“I like the peanut butter cookies, too. I’ll take five boxes of them!”
The boy says, “I’ll be right back with your order, that’ll be $250.” He takes off running as I reach for my wallet…
And I wake up to the sound of a light rain. Without opening my eyes, I can see it falling on the fields outside.
