Office chair

Donna and I decide we’re going to head over to the club/bar. We have an office chair with 5 wheels and adjustable height so, we both sit in the chair and off we go, right up the street. I have to push with one leg to climb the small hills but can glide down the hills controlling the steering with one foot dragging or pushing. We pass by a few people in their yard. I call out to the large white-haired man, “Hey, Raymond!” He waves back and continues talking with someone there with him. We roll up the hill as I push with one leg. We pass two other men who were deep in serious discussion but as we pass they stop and watch us as we roll by. I say to Donna, “l guess they’ve never seen anyone driving an office chair before!” We both laugh.  I agree but make a sharp left slightly uphill as to avoid any potential traffic at the t-bone into the new street. I think to myself, ‘that turn would have been much easier if I had a cane to hook into the signpost.’

We come to a slight stop before continuing down the road. As we are going downhill, another friend is on her bike and as she passes us she says, “This is the short way!” and turns onto the sidewalk. I follow but the comment is cracked and bumpy.

We arrive outside the club/bar and I park the chair and escort Donna up the stairs and inside before returning to lock up the chair. When I get outside again, the chair is gone! I look around when I hear an old truck start about 2 or 3 houses up. ‘I’ll bet that old man took it!’ and I run up to him just as his beat-up, old, red pickup truck is starting to drive off. I can see my chair in the back with some junk! I chase after him knocking on the side of the truck. He ignores me. I rap on his window yelling, “Hey! That’s my chair! I can tell you every scratch and ding on it!” “Not anymore!” He calls back at me! I jump into the back of the truck and am digging my chair out while he opens his phone and starts dialing. I figure it’s the police but I think, let him call, he stole my chair! How am I ever going to get Donna home without it! I start bouncing the back of the truck up and down while pulling my chair out.
